BDH H1 Bazooka Mechanical H-Pattern Shifter
One job, done without compromise.

The H1 does one thing: H-pattern. No mode collar, no sequential rail, no compromise built in to serve two jobs at once. Every part of it, from the alloy steel gate to the centralising cam, exists to make a manual gearchange feel mechanical. It is the reissue of the original BDH "Bazooka", the shifter that made the brand's name, rebuilt on contactless Hall Effect sensors and machined from HE260 aerospace aluminium. Hand-built to order in the UK and supplied in Australia by Player1 Sim Gear, an authorised BDH reseller.

Built to order

Every BDH shifter is hand-built in the UK, so lead times apply

BDH assemble and hand-tune each unit individually rather than pulling one off a shelf, which is why the gate resistance and travel are consistent from unit to unit. Give us a call before you order and we will confirm the current build queue and delivery estimate for your address. Australian GST is included in the price you see, and warranty claims are handled here in Queensland rather than sent back to the UK by you.

A single-purpose H-pattern, and that is the whole point.

Dedicated H-pattern mechanism

Nothing inside the H1 is shared with a sequential rail or compromised by a mode selector. The gate, the detents and the centralising cam are all sized for one job, which is what gives the throw its short, definite feel.

The "Bazooka" format, reissued

The original BDH Bazooka took its shift mechanism from the Ford Escort MKII rally car. This is that layout brought back for BDH's fifth anniversary, with the mechanical character intact and the electronics brought up to date.

Contactless Hall Effect sensing

There are no switch contacts to wear out or go intermittent. Gear position is read magnetically, so the H1 reports the same gear on its ten-thousandth shift as it did on its first.

Adjustable detent, with locking presets

A knurled gauge on top sets how hard each gate fights you, from a light road-car flick to a heavy, deliberate race throw. A dual-locking preset holds your setting so it does not creep during a long stint.

Eight gates, laid out how you want

Eight gear positions with a fully customisable layout, so reverse can sit where your car of choice puts it. Rotating the unit 180 degrees moves the reverse gate to the opposite side.

Metal all the way through

HE260 aerospace-grade aluminium, high-tensile steel internals, self-lubricating bronze bushings and PTFE-lined spherical bearings. The shear components are EN8 high-carbon steel rated to 40 tonnes.

Where the feel actually comes from.

Inside the BDH H1 shifter, showing the alloy steel gear gate, stainless gate pegs and spring detent assembly

The gate

Alloy steel gate, stainless pegs, spinning ball detents

The gate is the part you actually feel. BDH machine it from alloy steel and run the lever against radiused 303 stainless steel pegs, with a spinning ball detent at each position so the wear is even rather than concentrated on one face. That is why the H1 keeps the same click years in, instead of going vague on the gears you use most.

  • 8-gear gate with a fully customisable layout
  • Radiused 303 stainless pegs that wear evenly against the lever
  • Wear-free spinning ball detent at every gate position

Detent adjustment

Set the shift weight, then lock it there

The knurled gauge on the top of the housing changes how hard the lever has to work to cross into a gate. Wind it light for a quick road-car change, wind it heavy when you want to feel the box loading up. The dual-locking preset system then holds that setting, which matters more than it sounds: a detent that drifts under use is the usual reason a mechanical shifter stops feeling repeatable.

  • Adjustable detent gauge with no tools and no disassembly
  • Dual-locking presets so the setting stays put
  • Centralising cam returns the lever to the neutral plane every time

Construction

Machined from HE260, finished in black oxide

The cylindrical chassis is precision machined from HE260 aerospace-specification aluminium and given a black oxide electrochemical treatment rather than a paint finish, so scuffs do not show as bare metal. Inside, high-tensile steel takes the load, graphite-enhanced self-lubricating bronze guides keep the motion smooth without servicing, and EN8 high-carbon steel shear parts rated to 40 tonnes sit at the points that would fail first on a lesser design.

  • HE260 aerospace aluminium, black oxide treated
  • PTFE-lined spherical bearings of genuine motorsport grade
  • EN8 shear components rated to 40 tonnes

Mounting

Top, side or reverse mount, no extra brackets

The H1 clamps straight onto aluminium profile using standard M8 x 1.25 points and T-nut compatibility, and it can be mounted top, side or reversed through a full 360 degrees. Side-mounting is the one most people end up using, because it frees the space beside the seat that a top-mounted shifter eats. An optional sandwich adapter plate and several height positions cover the rest. Browse our shifter and handbrake mounts if your rig needs an arm to clamp it to.

  • 360-degree mounting for top, side and reverse positions
  • M8 x 1.25 points with T-nut compatibility for profile rigs
  • M10 x 1.5 knob thread, so third-party gear knobs fit

How it is made

Hand-built and hand-tuned, in batches, in the UK

BDH build in the UK in small batches and tune each unit's gate resistance and travel by hand before it ships. That is the reason for the lead time, and it is also the reason two H1s feel the same as each other. The lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects is a fair signal of how much of the cost sits in the metal rather than the marketing.

  • Assembled and hand-tuned per unit, not batch-calibrated
  • Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects
  • Serviceable design with replaceable wear components

About BDH Race Sim Hardware

A small UK builder that makes shifters and nothing else.

BDH Race Sim Hardware design and manufacture in the United Kingdom, and their whole catalogue is gear shifters. There are no wheelbases, no pedals and no rigs to divide the engineering effort. Their hardware is used by Motorsport UK for driver development, and by sim centres and rally schools where a shifter gets thousands of changes a week rather than a few hundred. Player1 Sim Gear is listed by BDH as an authorised reseller for Australia.

Made in the UK

Machined, assembled and hand-tuned in Britain, in small batches, with each unit checked before it ships.

Built for commercial use

Chosen by Motorsport UK driver development academies, sim centres and rally schools, where the duty cycle is far above home use.

Supported locally

Bought from Player1 Sim Gear in Queensland, with Australian GST included and warranty handled here rather than by you shipping to the UK.

What you need to run it

Requirement BDH H1
Platform PC (Windows). Not a console device.
Connection USB-C to your PC, 2 m cable included
Power supply None needed, USB powered at 5 V DC
Drivers or software None. It enumerates as a standard game controller
Wheel base brand Independent of your base. Works alongside Simagic, MOZA, Fanatec, Simucube, Asetek, Cammus and any other
Sim titles iRacing, Assetto Corsa and Competizione, Automobilista 2, rFactor 2, RaceRoom, Richard Burns Rally, Dirt Rally 2.0, EA WRC, Le Mans Ultimate, BeamNG.drive
Rig type Aluminium profile rigs, via the integrated clamp. Wheel stands and desks need a shifter mount
Clutch pedal Recommended but not required. Any three-pedal set works, since the H1 is read as a separate controller

The H1 is a PC device. It presents as a standard game controller, so each sim sees eight buttons and you bind gears the same way you would bind any other control. There is no BDH software layer to install and nothing to keep updated.

Which BDH shifter is right for you?

Model H-pattern Sequential Force feedback Best for
BDH H1 (this one) Classic mechanical H-pattern with solid detents, for drivers who only shift H
BDH H2SQ Both modes in one unit, dual-rail, smoother and more refined. Sprint-style sequential
BDH S1 Rally-focused sequential with a longer shaft and a hard, high-impact inertial kick
BDH Active Servo-driven feedback from live SimHub telemetry: gear grind, clutch lock-out, torque retention

All four use the same mounting plate design and can be top-, side- or reverse-mounted, so a mount bought for one BDH shifter carries over to another. See the whole range on our BDH shifters page.

Frequently asked questions

The H1 specifically

Does the BDH H1 do sequential shifting as well?
No. The H1 is a dedicated H-pattern shifter and there is no sequential mode and no upgrade path to add one. That is a design decision rather than a limitation: because nothing inside is shared with a sequential rail, the gate, detents and centralising cam are all sized purely for H-pattern use. If you want both modes in one unit, the BDH H2SQ has independent H-pattern and sequential mechanisms with a mechanical mode collar.
What is the "Bazooka" and is this the same shifter?
"The Bazooka" was the nickname given to BDH's original H-pattern shifter, named for its cylindrical body, and it is the product that established the brand. The current H1 is that design reissued for BDH's fifth anniversary. It keeps the Bazooka format and its Ford Escort MKII rally-inspired shift mechanism, but the electronics are new, with contactless Hall Effect sensors in place of the original sensing.
How many gears does it have, and can I change where reverse sits?
There are eight gear gates and the layout is fully customisable, so you can run it as a four, five, six or seven-speed plus reverse depending on what you drive. Reverse position is set by the physical gate, and to move it to the opposite side you rotate the whole unit 180 degrees. Within the game itself you can of course bind any gate to any gear you like.
Can I adjust how heavy the shift feels?
Yes. There is a knurled detent gauge on the top of the housing that sets how much force it takes to cross into each gate, from a light road-car flick through to a heavy, deliberate race throw. It adjusts without tools and without taking anything apart. A dual-locking preset system then holds the setting so it does not drift during use.
Will a third-party gear knob fit?
Yes. The lever uses an M10 x 1.5 thread, which is the common aftermarket gear knob size, so most third-party knobs will screw straight on. The H1 ships with its own knob fitted.
Is there a gear gate lockout kit for the H1?
BDH offer an H1 Gear Gate Lockout Kit that physically blocks unused gate positions so you can run a true four, five or six-speed pattern with hard stops, which removes mis-shifts into gates you never use. It fits H1 units of 2025 specification and above and installs with basic Allen keys, with no permanent modification. We do not currently list the kit separately, so contact us if you want one and we will source it with your shifter.

Setup and compatibility

What do I need to run the BDH H1?
A Windows PC and a spare USB port. The shifter connects by USB-C with the supplied 2 m cable, draws its power over USB at 5 V DC, and needs no external power supply. There are no drivers and no BDH software to install: it enumerates as a standard game controller, so you bind the gears in your sim the same way you would bind any other control.
Does it work on PlayStation or Xbox?
No. The H1 is a PC device. Consoles only accept licensed peripherals, and BDH shifters are not console licensed, so it will not be recognised on a PlayStation or Xbox even through an adapter.
Will it work with my Simagic, MOZA, Fanatec or Simucube wheel base?
Yes, with any of them. The H1 plugs into your PC directly rather than into the wheel base, so it is completely independent of what brand your base, wheel or pedals are. It works equally well alongside Simagic, MOZA, Fanatec, Simucube, Asetek, Cammus, Logitech or Thrustmaster hardware.
Which sims is it compatible with?
All the major PC titles, because it is seen as a generic controller. That covers iRacing, Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista 2, rFactor 2, RaceRoom, Le Mans Ultimate, BeamNG.drive and the rally titles the H1 suits particularly well: Richard Burns Rally, Dirt Rally 2.0 and EA Sports WRC.
How do I mount it to my rig?
The H1 has an integrated clamp system designed for aluminium profile rigs, using standard M8 x 1.25 points with T-nut compatibility, and it can be mounted top, side or reversed through a full 360 degrees. Side-mounting is the most popular choice because it keeps the space beside the seat clear. If you are on a wheel stand or a desk rather than a profile rig, you will want a shifter mount arm from our shifter and handbrake mounts range.
Can I side-mount it, or does it have to sit on top?
Side-mounting is fully supported and is what BDH designed the clamp system around. Every BDH shifter can be top-mounted, side-mounted or reverse-mounted, which is the practical way to make the most of the space on a rig without buying third-party brackets or adapters.
Do I need a clutch pedal to use it?
Not strictly, but it is worth having. Most sims will let you change gear on an H-pattern shifter without a clutch, and some will penalise you for it. Since the H1 is read as a separate controller, any three-pedal set works with it, whether that is Simagic, Heusinkveld, MOZA or anything else. Have a look at our sim racing pedals if you are adding a clutch.
Are the BDH mounting plates the same across the range?
Yes. All BDH shifters use the same mounting plate design, so if you already run an H2SQ, S1 or Active and add an H1, the mount carries straight over. Each can be side-, top- or reverse-mounted to suit your rig layout.

Buying, delivery and warranty

How long will my H1 take to arrive?
BDH hand-build each shifter to order rather than shipping from stock, so there is a build lead time before it leaves the UK, and that queue length moves depending on demand. Call us on 0488 385 870 before ordering and we will give you the current estimate for your address rather than a generic figure.
Is the price in Australian dollars and does it include GST?
Yes. Every price on our site is in Australian dollars with GST included, and there is nothing further to pay on delivery. Buying locally rather than importing direct from the UK means no separate import duty, no GST collection at the border and no customs brokerage handling fee to deal with yourself.
What warranty does the H1 have?
BDH cover their standard mechanical shifters, the H1 included, with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. Because you bought through Player1 Sim Gear, warranty claims are handled by us here in Queensland, and your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply on top of the manufacturer's warranty.
Is Player1 Sim Gear an authorised BDH seller?
Yes. Player1 Sim Gear is listed by BDH Race Sim Hardware as an authorised reseller for Australia. You are buying genuine, current-specification hardware with local support and local warranty handling, not a grey import.
Can I service or repair it later?
Yes. The H1 is designed to be serviceable, with wear components that can be replaced rather than the whole unit being scrapped. Beyond the warranty period BDH continue to offer support under their return-for-repair policy. Talk to us first and we will coordinate it, so the unit is handled correctly and you are not paying tax twice on an international return.
Should I get the H1 or the H2SQ?
If you only ever drive H-pattern cars, the H1 is the more focused instrument and its detents feel the most classically mechanical of the range. Choose the H2SQ if you also drive sequential cars and want one unit for both, or if you prefer a slightly smoother, more refined H-pattern action from its dual-rail architecture. If you are torn, call us on 0488 385 870 and describe what you drive.

Warranty & Australian Support

Covered by BDH, handled locally in Australia

Buy from Player1 Sim Gear and you deal with us, not overseas

Every BDH shifter is backed by a BDH manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and build quality under normal use. Buying through Player1 Sim Gear means that warranty is handled right here in Australia from our Queensland base. If anything goes wrong, you talk to us and we sort it out, so you are never left arranging a claim with a supplier on the other side of the world.

Your purchase is also protected by the Australian Consumer Law, which provides statutory guarantee rights including repair, replacement or refund for a major failure. Beyond the standard warranty, BDH continues to offer repair support under their Return for Repair policy, and we will organise that with them on your behalf.

Common questions

Warranty & support FAQ

How long is my BDH shifter covered for?

BDH's mechanical shifters, the H1, H2SQ, H1SQ and S1, carry a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. The Active, which adds a servo and electronics, carries a 2-year warranty. Both exclude normal wear and tear, accidental damage and misuse, and both are handled locally by us.

Who handles my warranty claim, and do I have to deal with the UK?

You deal with Player1 Sim Gear here in Australia. We handle your claim locally from our Queensland base and coordinate any repair with BDH for you, so you are never shipping things back and forth or negotiating with an overseas supplier yourself.

How do I log a support request?

The fastest way is to log a support ticket, which lets us track your request and keep everything in one place. You can also call us on 0488 385 870 or send us a message.

What does the warranty cover?

Manufacturing defects affecting materials, structural integrity and build quality under normal use. It does not cover normal wear and tear, cosmetic marks from use, accidental damage or modification. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law also apply on top of the manufacturer warranty.

What happens if it needs repair outside the warranty?

BDH continues to offer repair support under their Return for Repair policy, which is processed as a return for repair for customs so tax is not paid twice on the same unit. Contact us first and we will organise it with BDH rather than leaving you to arrange it yourself.

Where do I get the manual and software for my shifter?

Use the Manuals & Downloads list above to grab the product manual for your model. The Active also has a SimHub plugin to enable and configure its feedback; the mechanical shifters need no software. You can also browse the full BDH downloads page and instructional videos. If you get stuck, log a ticket and we will help.

Do I need to pay any import or customs charges on a warranty repair?

No. You are buying and dealing with an Australian retailer, so there is nothing to import at purchase. If a unit ever needs to go back for repair, it is handled under BDH's Return for Repair customs classification so tax is not charged twice, and we manage that process with you.
