BDH Active Shifter | Force Feedback H-Pattern Shifter

The Active is BDH's flagship H-pattern shifter and the only one in the range with electronically controlled resistance. A high-torque servo modulates the gate in real time using live telemetry from SimHub, so the weight, vibration and kickback you feel come from what the virtual drivetrain is doing rather than from a fixed spring. It is designed purely for H-pattern operation.

It is a mechanical shifter first. The gate, the throw and the engagement are the same machined hardware that BDH shifters are known for. The servo sits over the top of that and adds engine and gearbox feedback. It enhances the mechanical action rather than replacing it, which is why the Active still feels like a BDH shifter through the gate.

SimHub is required for the active feedback to work. The Active integrates with it directly, with no plugins or third-party middleware in between. Once connected it behaves as a plug-and-play device with automatic configuration for supported titles. Without SimHub running you still have a mechanical H-pattern shifter, but you lose the telemetry-driven effects.

Clutch lock-out closes the gate when the sim reports that a shift is not available, so you cannot make a change the gearbox would refuse. Gear grind reproduces the noise and kickback of a shift attempted without properly disengaging the clutch. Torque feedback holds the lever firmer under drivetrain load and frees it up when you lift. Together they mean technique matters in a way it does not on a passive shifter.

Yes. Haptic intensity and feedback levels are adjustable through the onboard rotary encoder interface, so you can set a subtle level for a modern GT gearbox and a much more aggressive level for an older straight-cut box. Adjustments are made on the unit, in session, without going back to a menu.

The gate is configurable from 4-speed to 6-speed layouts, and you change it on the unit itself using the rotary encoder interface. Switching from a 6-speed GT layout to a 4-speed touring car configuration takes seconds, so you are not locked into one pattern for a mixed session.

No. The Active is H-pattern only and is not a dual-mode unit. If you want one shifter that covers both H-pattern and sequential, the BDH H2SQ is the model to look at. For a dedicated rally-style sequential with a longer shaft and a harder, more aggressive engagement, the BDH S1 is the one.

No. There is no upgrade or conversion path from any existing BDH model. The Active uses a completely new internal mechanism and control system, and every unit is individually built, tuned and programmed during production. It has to be bought as a complete shifter.

The H1 is the classic mechanical H-pattern with solid detents, favoured by drivers who want raw feel and nothing between them and the gate. The H2SQ is dual-mode, covering H-pattern and sequential with a smoother, more refined engagement. The Active is H-pattern only and adds servo-driven resistance tied to live telemetry, which makes it the most lifelike of the three but also the most specialised.

The S1 is a rally-focused sequential with a longer shaft and a high-impact, aggressive action. The H2SQ's sequential mode is sprint-style, with a shorter shaft and smoother engagement. Both use the same precision mechanical architecture and both side-mount to free up space on your rig.

Through BDH's integrated clamp system, which is designed specifically for aluminium profile rigs. You can top mount, side mount or reverse mount without needing third-party brackets or adapter plates. All BDH shifters share the same mounting plate design, so the Active fits the same way as the rest of the range.

Yes. The Active is orientation-switchable for left or right-hand mounting, and reverse mounting is supported. This is worth planning before you order if space is tight around your seat or your pedal deck, and it is one of the things we are happy to check with you over the phone.

If your rig is built from aluminium profile, the integrated clamp system will attach to it. That covers Trak Racer profile cockpits and the majority of profile rigs on the market. Not for a profile rig. The clamp system is part of the shifter and attaches straight to the extrusion. If you want the shifter positioned somewhere your frame does not currently reach, a shifter mount or an additional length of profile is the usual answer, and we can advise on which suits your cockpit.
