Pimax Dream Air specification overview — Sony Micro-OLED panels, ConcaveView pancake optics, 120Hz eye tracking and ~170g featherweight design

The biggest thing to happen to VR is this tiny

Sony Micro-OLED — infinite contrast

Two 1.35-inch Sony Micro-OLED panels deliver 3840 × 3552 per eye with true, self-lit blacks and infinite contrast. Night flying, deep-space scenes and dark cockpits look exactly as they should — no grey haze, no blooming.

ConcaveView pancake optics — widest micro-OLED FOV

Pimax's three-layer pancake lenses — with a concave top element — achieve the widest field of view of any micro-OLED VR headset while keeping clarity razor-sharp edge to edge. Up to 120° horizontal with a huge, forgiving sweet spot.

So light you forget you're wearing it

At around 170 grams the Dream Air all but disappears on your face. The ergonomic facemask and backstrap are both easily modifiable, so you can dial in a perfect, fatigue-free fit for marathon race stints and long-haul flights.

120 Hz eye tracking + Dynamic Foveated Rendering

Built-in eye tracking runs at 120 Hz and powers Dynamic Foveated Rendering — your PC renders full detail only where your eyes are actually looking. The result is an enormous performance boost that lets mainstream GPUs drive 8K-class visuals.

Uncompressed visuals over DisplayPort

The Dream Air is a true PCVR headset — a direct DisplayPort 1.4 connection feeds pixel-perfect, uncompressed images with none of the artefacts or latency of wireless streaming. What your GPU renders is exactly what you see.

Your choice of tracking — SLAM or Lighthouse

Pick inside-out SLAM tracking (four on-board cameras, ringless controllers, zero base stations) for the simplest setup, or the Lighthouse edition for SteamVR base-station precision if you already run a Lighthouse ecosystem.

The widest field of view of any small-form-factor headset

Most ultra-compact VR headsets trade away your peripheral vision. The Dream Air doesn't. Its proprietary three-element ConcaveView pancake optics wrap the virtual world around you with up to 120° of horizontal field of view (adjustable in Pimax Play), while the concave top layer keeps text, gauges and distant detail crisp right across the lens. The sweet spot is large and forgiving — so the image stays sharp even as your eyes dart around the cockpit.

Pimax Dream Air ergonomic facemask and backstrap, around 170 grams

Featherweight comfort, built for long sessions

Weighing in at roughly 170 grams, the Dream Air is a fraction of the mass of a traditional PCVR headset. There's no front-heavy pull and no need for elaborate counterweights. The ergonomic facemask spreads contact evenly, the backstrap cradles the back of your head, and both are easily moddable — swap pads, adjust tension and tune the fit to your exact face shape.

Pimax Dream Air 120Hz eye tracking powering Dynamic Foveated Rendering

Eye tracking that pays for itself in frames

Eye tracking at 120 Hz drives Dynamic Foveated Rendering (DFR): the GPU only renders full, native-resolution detail in the small area you're directly looking at, and intelligently softens the periphery your eyes can't resolve anyway. You can't see it working — but you'll feel it in the frame rate. DFR is what makes 8K-class clarity playable on mainstream graphics cards.

Two editions — one featherweight headset

Both editions share the identical headset: the same Sony Micro-OLED panels, ConcaveView pancake optics, 120 Hz eye tracking, integrated audio and around-170-gram comfort. The only difference is how it tracks your movement — and whether controllers are included.

Recommended GPU — what you'll need to drive the Dream Air

MINIMUM — casual VR, reduced settings

RTX 2070 / 2080

RECOMMENDED — sim racing & flight at full quality

RTX 3070 and higher

Because the Dream Air pairs compact micro-OLED panels with Dynamic Foveated Rendering, it's noticeably easier to drive than larger PCVR headsets. An RTX 3070 is the recommended sweet spot, with adjustable render resolution to scale quality to your card. PCVR only — a DisplayPort 1.4 output and a USB 3.0 port are required. No wireless or standalone mode.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Dream Air different from the Crystal Super?

Internally they're close cousins — the Dream Air is essentially the Sony Micro-OLED optical engine of the Crystal Super shrunk into a tiny, ~170-gram pancake-lens body. Choose the Dream Air if you want the smallest, lightest possible full-feature 8K-class headset with true OLED blacks. Choose the Crystal Super if you want a larger QLED panel, aspheric lenses, higher PPD options (50/57 PPD) and an even wider field of view (up to 140°). Both run on Pimax Play and share the same controller technology.

Should I buy the SLAM edition or the Lighthouse edition?

For most people, the SLAM edition is the right choice — it tracks itself using four on-board cameras, includes two ringless controllers, and needs no external base stations, so you're up and running in minutes. Choose the Lighthouse edition only if you already own SteamVR base stations and controllers and want their sub-millimetre tracking precision; it ships as headset-only and uses a click-on Lighthouse faceplate. Not sure? Call us on 0488 385 870 and we'll point you to the right one.

Do I need base stations to use the Dream Air?

Only for the Lighthouse edition. The SLAM edition uses inside-out tracking with four built-in cameras and requires no external sensors at all. The Lighthouse edition is designed for people who already run a SteamVR base-station setup.

What graphics card do I need?

The minimum is roughly an NVIDIA RTX 2070/2080, and we recommend an RTX 3070 or higher for sim racing and flight at full quality. Thanks to Dynamic Foveated Rendering and adjustable render resolution, the Dream Air is easier to drive than larger PCVR headsets — but more GPU headroom always means higher settings and smoother frame rates. You'll also need a DisplayPort 1.4 output and a USB 3.0 port.

Is the Dream Air wireless?

No. The Dream Air is a PCVR-only headset that connects to your PC via a DisplayPort 1.4 + USB cable for uncompressed, low-latency visuals. It does not support wireless streaming or standalone operation.

Does it work with my existing Steam VR library?

Yes. The Dream Air runs all SteamVR, OpenXR and OpenVR applications through Pimax Play, so your existing PCVR library — DCS World, MSFS 2024, iRacing, Assetto Corsa and the rest — works out of the box.

I wear glasses — can I still use it?

Yes. The Dream Air has automatic IPD adjustment across a 58–72 mm range, and Pimax offers custom diopter (prescription) lens inserts from −300 to +900 degrees, sold separately, so most users can go glasses-free. Contact us if you'd like help ordering the right inserts for your prescription.

What is Pimax Prime, and what happens if I don't pay the fee after my trial?

Pimax Prime lets you pay a lower entry price upfront, try the headset for 14 days, then pay a one-time Prime fee via the Pimax Play app to keep it permanently — no subscription, no ongoing cost. If the Prime fee isn't paid after the trial, the Pimax Play software stops functioning until you complete the one-time payment. The Prime status is tied to the headset and transfers with it if you ever sell it. Full-payment versions with no secondary fee are also available.

What else do I need to complete my sim setup with the Dream Air?

The Dream Air is a PCVR headset — it needs a capable gaming PC (RTX 3070+ recommended) with a DisplayPort 1.4 output. Beyond that, your ideal setup depends on your discipline. For sim racing you'll want a direct-drive wheelbase and load-cell pedals (we stock Moza, Simagic, Simucube and Heusinkveld), a sturdy cockpit (Trak Racer and Next Level Racing are favourites), and optionally a motion platform or ButtKicker for haptics. For flight simulation you'll want a HOTAS or yoke and throttle, rudder pedals and a flight cockpit. Player1 Sim Gear stocks the lot — browse our Sim Packages, Racing Cockpits and Wheel & Pedal Combos. Not sure where to start? Call us on 0488 385 870.

Do you ship the Dream Air Australia-wide, and how long does delivery take?

Yes — we ship the Dream Air right across Australia, metro and regional. Player1 Sim Gear is an official Australian Pimax distributor, so stock is held and supported locally rather than imported on demand. Delivery timeframes vary by location and stock availability — contact us on 0488 385 870 or via our contact page for current lead times and express options. All orders are trackable and insured.

Why buy the Pimax Dream Air from Player1 Sim Gear rather than overseas?

Player1 Sim Gear is an official Australian Pimax distributor. Buying from us means your warranty is honoured locally — no shipping your headset overseas for repairs, no grey-market support gaps. You get full Australian Consumer Law protection, local warranty handling, Australian stock, GST-inclusive pricing with a valid tax invoice, and a real person to call on 0488 385 870. Our team uses this gear every day and can help you choose the right edition and GPU for your sim.

Pimax 14-Day Trial & Returns

Try your Pimax headset at home — then decide

VR is personal. The right field of view, comfort and clarity depend on your own eyes, face shape and PC. That's why every new Pimax headset we sell comes with a genuine 14-day trial through the Pimax Prime program — so you can experience it in your own sim before you fully commit. Below is exactly how the trial, the keep-it payment and the returns process work when you buy from Player1 Sim Gear, an authorised Australian Pimax distributor.

Pimax Crystal Light Pimax Crystal Super Pimax Dream Air

How the Pimax Prime trial works

Pimax Prime is a two-step payment model. You pay a lower entry price upfront, receive the complete headset, and have 14 days from delivery to decide whether to keep it. There's no credit check and no financing approval — you simply try it, then either pay the remainder to keep it or send it back.

1

Pay the entry price & receive your headset

Order the Prime version and pay the upfront entry price. Your headset ships complete with everything included for your chosen edition — nothing is locked or limited during the trial.

2

Try it for 14 days from delivery

Use it in your own setup with your own games. The 14-day window is counted from the date your order is delivered, giving you a real, no-pressure trial in the only environment that matters — yours.

3

Keep it or return it

Love it? Pay the one-time Prime fee to own it outright. Not for you? Start a return within the 14 days for a refund, less the restocking fee and shipping outlined below.

The 14-day return guarantee

Every newly purchased Pimax Crystal Light, Crystal Super and Dream Air is covered by a 14-day return guarantee. This applies whether you bought the Prime (try-first) version or the full-payment version. Player1 Sim Gear honours the same 14-day return policy that Pimax operates, with local Australian handling.

If you keep it

  • On the Prime version, pay the one-time remaining Prime fee through the Pimax Play app to unlock the headset permanently.
  • It's a single payment — no subscription and no ongoing cost once the Prime fee is paid.
  • Your Prime (paid-in-full) status is tied to the headset and transfers with it if you ever sell it.
  • Prefer to skip the two-step process? A full-payment version is available that includes the complete cost with no secondary fee.
  • If the Prime fee is not paid after the trial, the Pimax Play software stops functioning until the one-time payment is completed.

If you return it (change of mind)

  • 10% restocking fee — 10% of the headset's MSRP is deducted from your refund as a restocking and inspection fee.
  • Return shipping is paid by you. We recommend an insured, trackable carrier.
  • The original outbound shipping you paid is not refunded.
  • Your refund is issued to the original payment method, typically within 3–5 business days after the returned headset passes inspection.
  • Returned headsets undergo a factory-standard inspection and are not resold as new.

Faulty or defective headsets are handled differently

The restocking fee and return-shipping costs above apply only to change-of-mind returns. If your headset has a genuine fault through no fault of your own, it is covered by its manufacturer warranty: any qualifying fault is repaired or replaced at no cost to you, including shipping, handled locally here in Australia. You also retain your full rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which exist alongside — and are not limited by — this returns policy.

What's eligible for return

To qualify for a change-of-mind return within the 14-day window, the headset should be in clean, undamaged, fully working condition with no signs of misuse, and returned with its included accessories. Items damaged through accident or misuse may not be eligible, or may be subject to additional deductions assessed at inspection.

Scenario What you pay / receive
Keep it (Prime) Pay the one-time remaining Prime fee via Pimax Play — yours permanently, no subscription.
Keep it (Full payment) Nothing further — the full price was paid upfront with no secondary fee.
Change-of-mind return Refund of the entry price paid, less a 10% restocking fee and return shipping; original outbound shipping not refunded.
Faulty / warranty Repaired or replaced at no cost, including shipping — handled locally in Australia.
How payment splits work on the Prime version: you pay the upfront entry price to Player1 Sim Gear in AUD (inc. GST). The remaining one-time Prime fee is paid directly to Pimax through the Pimax Play app (charged in USD) after your 14-day trial. Full-payment versions are billed entirely in AUD with no secondary fee. Prices and fees are confirmed at checkout for your chosen edition.

Thinking about a return, or not sure yet?

Talk to us before the 14 days are up and we'll walk you through your options. Our team runs this gear every day and can often solve a comfort or setup issue so you keep the headset you wanted in the first place.

For any technical issue through no fault of the user within the warranty, Pimax will replace the headset at no cost for the user. Any costs, including shipping , are covered by Pimax.

After you’ve paid the Prime Membership fee, you can then use it for free as long as you like?

Yes. The whole headset is yours and you'll never be required to pay for any further subscription. The Prime Membership is tied to your headset, so even if you sell it, the subscription won't reset.

Why is the price split into two parts?

  • This refund policy from Pimax is quite good, users can try the headset for 14 days and then refund it if they want. (Many high-end VR brands do not offer any form of refund.)
  • We see this as offering more flexible options for users.

All Pimax products come with a full 12 month Manufacturers warranty. Even if you are out of your warranty period and you have an issue, let us know, we will work with the awesome team at Pimax to look after you. For more info see: Pimax Warranty

Australia-Wide Shipping

We ship all over Australia and want you to get your new gear as fast as possible, so we always aim to ship on the same day we receive your order, using the fastest and most reliable couriers in Australia. Of course, it may not always be possible to process your order on the same day, so please allow 1-2 business days for processing. If we encounter any delays we will let you know via email.

To  maximise efficiency, Player1 Sim Gear ships all products in their original packaging straight from our warehouses or directly from our suppliers and manufacturers. Orders may be shipped in part or in full, and different courier companies may be used for different parts of your order. Please allow 2-8 business days for delivery.  Please advise your phone number at checkout so we can get in touch with you if there is any problem. If you should receive a product that has been damaged while in transit please contact us immediately.

Please make sure someone will be available to receive your order, otherwise, your package may be diverted to your local post office or to your local shipping depot. We recommend all deliveries are sent to a business address to avoid any re-delivery charges.  Note: Player1 Sim Gear will only ship to confirmed addresses, we cannot ship to PO Boxes sorry.

There may be times when the product you have ordered turns out to be out-of-stock with us or our suppliers. We will contact you to arrange a refund or alternate product if an item you have ordered is out-of-stock or unavailable for immediate shipment. You may cancel your order at any time prior to shipping.

International Orders: Apologies at the moment we don't ship internationally as standard. However if you outside Australia and there is something you'd like to purchase please do message us at sales@p1simgear.com.au, we will be happy to see what we can do.

Note re Larger cockpits and remote locations:  We do our very best to ensure accurate shipping rates, however for larger cockpits and heavier items, rarely our shipping pricing may not be correct. In the event that the actual shipping costs for a large item should be exceed those quoted in your order, we will call you to discuss before we dispatch. You will have the option then to amend or cancel your order at no cost.

Returns Policy

We hope we can provide as much information and guidance as possible about each item so that you will love whatever you buy. We do understand though that the unforeseen happens. So in the unlikely event you wish to raise a return, please contact us and we shall discuss options and how we will proceed with the return request.

We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return.  You may return your item(s) for an exchange/refund, so long as it is in the same condition that you received it, unopened, with tags and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.

To request a return, you must first send an email to support@p1simgear.com.au with your Order number as the email subject and Reason for Return in the email body/message. We will reply to your email with your relevant return information. We will not accept any returned items if we have not had an email from you requesting a return, so you must request a return first, before sending anything back.

Damages and issues
Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.

Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.

All returns are subject to the following conditions:

  • Items must be returned sealed and unused in their original packaging and in a fully resalable condition. All items are supplied to you, the customer, in brand new condition unless explicitly stated otherwise in the product title. We reserve the right to levy a charge to replace product packaging which is damaged  / defaced / missing.

  • We cannot accept responsibility for returned parcels which are undelivered back to us (e.g. lost by the courier, delivered to incorrect address) or damaged in transit back to us. We strongly advise you send returned items using an insured & tracked service. Furthermore, we also strongly advise you to obtain and retain your proof of postage, as you may require it should you decide to make a claim against your carrier should they damage or lose your item whilst returning it to us.

For items which require assembly, we are not responsible for any charges (labour or otherwise) incurred during fitment/removal of allegedly faulty (or incorrectly supplied) parts.

Returns made outside of the 30-day return window, or with no valid reason, will be declined.
