Vero Motion Rival: braking you feel in your shoulders
The belt tensioner that loads your chest, not just your hands.

A wheelbase tells your hands what the front tyres are doing. Nothing tells your body what the car is doing, which is why heavy braking in a sim feels like nothing at all. The Rival fixes that. Two motors behind the seat pull a 5-point harness against you with up to 60 kg of force, timed to the car's own physics, so braking pushes you into the belts, acceleration releases you, and kerbs and gear changes arrive as sharp hits through the shoulders. It bolts to the aluminium profile you already have and runs through SimHub. Supplied in Australia by Player1 Sim Gear, an Authorised Australian Distributor for Vero Motion.

Australian distributor

Bought from an Authorised Australian Distributor for Vero Motion

Player1 Sim Gear is an Authorised Australian Distributor for Vero Motion, so you are buying current-specification hardware with the 3-year warranty handled here in Queensland rather than shipped back to the manufacturer at your own cost. Prices are in Australian dollars with GST included, and there is no import duty or customs brokerage for you to sort out. The Rival is built to order, so call us on 0488 385 870 before you buy and we will confirm the current lead time to your address.

The one thing a wheelbase and pedals cannot do.

It works on your body, not your hands

Force feedback lives in the wheel and pedals. Braking load, acceleration and lateral G are felt through the torso in a real car, and that is the channel the Rival adds. It is the cheapest way to make a static rig stop feeling static.

60 kg of pull, from two motors

Two rotary motors deliver up to 30 kg each, 60 kg combined, through the shoulder straps. That is enough to genuinely load your chest under braking rather than just tug at the belts, which is where cheaper tensioners run out.

Fast enough for the small hits

A 250 mm per second response is what makes kerbs, gear changes, road texture and wheel lock read as separate events instead of a general wobble. Slow tensioners can do braking; only quick ones can do detail.

150 mm of travel to use

The Rival has 150 mm of pull, the longest in the range. Long travel means the belt can build pressure progressively through a braking zone rather than snatching to its limit and staying there.

Bolts to the rig you already own

It mounts straight onto 80, 120 and 160 series aluminium profile, so on most extrusion rigs it is a bolt-on job behind the seat. No adapter plates and no rig-specific bracket to source.

Everything in one box

Tensioner unit with integrated power supply, controller, emergency stop button and a 5-point racing harness are all included. There is no separate PSU brick to find room for and no harness to buy on top.

Where the feeling actually comes from.

Vero Motion Rival belt tensioner mounted behind the seat on an aluminium profile sim rig with the harness routed over the shoulders

The principle

Your body reads pressure, so give it pressure

In a real car, braking throws you forward into the belts and the harness pushes back into your chest and shoulders. That pressure is how a driver senses deceleration, and it arrives well before anything shows up on a dash. The Rival reproduces it directly: the unit sits behind the seat, the harness runs over your shoulders, and the motors wind the straps in and out in step with what the car is doing. You are not watching the car brake any more, you are being braked.

  • Braking pulls you into the belts, hard and progressively
  • Acceleration releases the straps and lets you settle back
  • Kerbs, gearshifts and lock-ups arrive as distinct hits

Mounting

A single bolt-on unit, not a rebuild

The whole tensioner is one compact housing with the power supply built into it, so there is no separate brick to mount and no loose wiring loom to route. It clamps onto 80, 120 and 160 series aluminium extrusion, which covers the great majority of profile rigs, and it sits behind the seat where it takes up space you were not using anyway. If you are running a Trak Racer, Simagic, Sim-Lab or similar profile chassis, this is a straightforward afternoon fitting.

  • 80, 120 and 160 profile all supported as standard
  • Integrated power supply, nothing extra to find room for
  • Mounts behind the seat, clear of your pedals and wheel deck

Connections and control

One USB lead, one power lead, SimHub does the rest

The end panel carries a USB-B port to the PC, a dedicated emergency line input for the stop button, a universal 110 to 230 volt AC inlet and a power switch. Effects are driven by SimHub, the free telemetry software most sim racers already run for dashboards and bass shakers, so the Rival reads what the car is doing directly rather than guessing from audio. That also means you can tune how much of each effect you want instead of taking a fixed profile.

  • USB-B to the PC and a universal 110 to 230 V inlet
  • SimHub driven, so effects are tunable per car and per driver
  • Dedicated emergency line for the supplied stop button

The harness

A proper 5-point harness, in the box

A belt tensioner is only as good as what it pulls on, so the Rival ships with a full 5-point racing harness with a cam-lock centre buckle rather than leaving you to source one. Five points matter here: the shoulder straps take the tensioner load, and the lap and crotch straps stop you sliding forward under it, which is what keeps the pressure on your chest where you can read it. It fits any seat with harness slots, which covers essentially every bucket seat sold for sim racing.

  • 5-point harness included, with a cam-lock centre release
  • Fits any seat with harness slots, bucket or reclining
  • Emergency stop button supplied, wired to its own input

About Vero Motion

Motion engineers who build for simulator centres first.

Vero Motion build actuator-driven motion hardware for sim racing, from belt tensioners up to full 6 degree-of-freedom platforms, and their work is used in professional driver training and simulation centres as well as in home rigs. That matters here, because most belt tensioners are built to a price by companies that do not make anything else. The Rival comes from people whose day job is moving loaded motion rigs. Player1 Sim Gear is an Authorised Australian Distributor.

Motion-platform engineering

Vero Motion build actuator-driven motion platforms as their core business, so the Rival is designed by people used to moving a loaded rig, not to a price point.

Built for duty cycles

Designed for professional training and simulation centres as well as home use, where hardware runs all day rather than a few evenings a week.

Supported locally

Bought from an authorised Australian distributor, with the 3-year warranty handled here in Queensland and GST-inclusive pricing.

What you need to run it

Requirement Vero Motion Rival
Platform PC (Windows), because effects are driven by SimHub. Not a console device.
Software SimHub required. Free, and already used by most sim racers for dashboards and bass shakers
Connection USB-B to the PC
Power Integrated supply, universal 110 to 230 V AC. Runs on Australian mains
Rig Aluminium profile rig, 80, 120 or 160 series
Seat Any seat with harness slots, which is nearly every sim racing seat. Harness is included
Wheel base brand Irrelevant. It connects to the PC, not your base. Works alongside Simagic, MOZA, Fanatec, Simucube, Asetek and any other
Sim titles Any title SimHub reads telemetry from: iRacing, Assetto Corsa and Competizione, Automobilista 2, rFactor 2, RaceRoom, Le Mans Ultimate, EA WRC and Dirt Rally 2.0

A belt tensioner is independent of your wheel and pedals, so nothing you already own needs replacing and nothing needs to match brands. It sits alongside your existing gear and adds a channel none of it covers.

Where the Rival sits

Product What it does Best for
Rival (this one) Belt tensioner. Pulls a 5-point harness against you for braking, acceleration and impact cues Adding body feel to an existing static rig without rebuilding it
Champion Series 3 degree-of-freedom actuator motion platform. Moves the whole rig in pitch, roll and heave Drivers who want the rig itself to move, in 100 mm or 150 mm stroke
Legend Series 6 degree-of-freedom platform. Full-body motion across all six axes Professional training, esports teams and simulation centres

The Rival is not a smaller motion platform, it is a different channel. Belt tension does sustained load, which motion platforms struggle with, while a platform does the movement a tensioner cannot. Plenty of serious rigs eventually run both. See the whole range on our Vero Motion page.

Frequently asked questions

What it is and what it does

What does a belt tensioner actually add to a sim rig?
It adds the force your body feels, which is the one channel a wheelbase and pedals cannot reach. In a real car, deceleration throws you into the harness and the belts push back on your chest and shoulders, and drivers read braking largely through that pressure. The Rival reproduces it by winding the shoulder straps in and out in time with the car's telemetry, so braking loads you up, acceleration releases you, and kerbs and gear changes arrive as distinct hits. On a static rig it is usually the single biggest step in immersion after the wheelbase itself.
Is a belt tensioner the same as a motion platform?
No, and they are not really substitutes. A motion platform physically moves the rig, which is very good at transient movement like pitch, roll and impacts. A belt tensioner applies sustained pressure to your body, which is what long braking zones and steady cornering load actually feel like, and which motion platforms find hard because they run out of travel. Many high-end rigs eventually run both. If you want the rig to move, look at the Champion Series instead.
How strong is 60 kg of pull in practice?
Strong enough that heavy braking genuinely presses you into the seat rather than tugging at your shoulders. The Rival's two motors deliver up to 30 kg each, 60 kg combined, through the shoulder straps. Force is adjustable in software, so most people set it well below maximum for everyday driving and keep the headroom for the heaviest braking events.
Will I feel more than just braking?
Yes. Because the effects are driven from live telemetry through SimHub, the tensioner can respond to engine RPM, gear changes, kerbs, road texture, bumps and wheel lock as well as longitudinal load. The 250 mm per second response is what makes those smaller, faster events readable as separate hits rather than blurring into general movement. How much of each effect you run is up to you in SimHub.

Setup and compatibility

Do I need SimHub?
Yes. SimHub is what reads telemetry from your sim and drives the Rival's effects, so it is required rather than optional. The good news is that it is free, it is the most widely used telemetry tool in sim racing, and a lot of owners are already running it for dashboards or bass shakers. It also means the Rival works with any title SimHub supports rather than a fixed list, and that you can tune each effect to taste.
Does it work on PlayStation or Xbox?
No. The Rival is a PC device, because SimHub is Windows software and telemetry is what drives the effects. Consoles do not expose the telemetry a belt tensioner needs, so there is no console version and an adapter will not help.
Will it work with my Simagic, MOZA, Fanatec or Simucube setup?
Yes, with any of them. The Rival connects to your PC by USB, not to your wheel base, so the brand of your base, wheel or pedals makes no difference at all. SimHub takes telemetry from the game rather than from your hardware. Nothing you already own needs to be replaced or matched.
Will it fit my rig?
If you have an aluminium profile rig, almost certainly. The Rival bolts onto 80, 120 and 160 series extrusion, which covers the large majority of profile chassis including Trak Racer, Simagic, Sim-Lab and similar. If you are on a folding or wheel-stand style rig rather than extrusion, send us a photo before ordering and we will tell you honestly whether it will work.
What seat do I need?
Any seat with harness slots, which is nearly every bucket and reclining seat sold for sim racing. The shoulder straps need to pass through the seat back at roughly shoulder height for the tensioner to load your chest properly rather than pulling down on your shoulders. If your current seat has no slots, have a look at our sim racing seats range, or call us and we will check yours.
Do I need to buy a harness separately?
No. A 5-point racing harness with a cam-lock centre buckle is included, along with the controller and the emergency stop button. Five points is deliberate: the shoulder straps carry the tensioner load and the lap and crotch straps stop you sliding forward under it, which is what keeps the pressure where you can actually read it.
Does it run on Australian power?
Yes. The power supply is built into the unit and accepts 110 to 230 volts at 50 Hz, so Australian mains is well within range and no transformer or voltage converter is needed. Rated draw is 240 W.
Is it safe? What happens if something goes wrong?
An emergency stop button is included and wired to its own dedicated input on the unit, so the tensioner can be cut instantly and independently of the PC or software. Keep it somewhere you can hit it without looking. The harness uses a cam-lock centre buckle, which releases all five straps with one movement. As with any harness, set it up so you can always get out unassisted.
How hard is it to install?
On a profile rig it is a bolt-on job rather than a rebuild. The unit is a single housing with the power supply already inside it, so you are mounting one item behind the seat, routing the harness through the seat slots, and running a USB lead and a power lead. Allow an afternoon if you are also setting up and tuning the SimHub effects, which is the part most people spend the time on.

Buying, delivery and warranty

Is Player1 Sim Gear an authorised Vero Motion seller?
Player1 Sim Gear is an Authorised Australian Distributor for Vero Motion. You are buying genuine, current-specification hardware with the full manufacturer warranty, local support and local warranty handling, not a grey import.
What warranty does the Rival come with?
Three years. Because you bought from an authorised Australian distributor, warranty claims are handled by us here in Queensland rather than by you shipping hardware back to the manufacturer at your own cost, and your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply on top of the manufacturer's warranty.
Is the price in Australian dollars and does it include GST?
Yes. Every price on our site is in Australian dollars with GST included and there is nothing further to pay on delivery. Buying locally rather than importing direct also means no import duty collected at the border and no customs brokerage fee for you to handle, which on hardware at this level is a real difference.
How long will delivery take?
The Rival is built to order rather than held in bulk, so there is a production lead time before it ships. That figure moves with demand, so rather than quote you a generic number, call us on 0488 385 870 or send us a message and we will confirm the current lead time to your address before you commit.
Can I add a motion platform later?
Yes, and a lot of people do it in that order. Belt tension and platform motion are different channels rather than competing ones, so a Rival is not wasted when you later add a Champion Series or Legend Series platform. Talk to us first about how the two mount together on your particular rig.
Should I buy this or a set of bass shakers?
They do different jobs and cost very different money. Bass shakers give you vibration and texture, which is excellent value and worth having. A belt tensioner gives you sustained directional force, which is a category of feel shakers cannot produce at all. If you have neither, shakers are the cheaper first step. If you already run shakers and braking still feels weightless, the Rival is the thing that is missing.
